Ferrari F40 - Under the Hood, continued

The chassis is a tubular steel space-frame, not a monocoque, carrying bonded Kevlar body panels and carbon-fibre doors, bonnet, and boot lid. Magnesium shows up wherever mass could be removed without removing structure: the oil sump, the cylinder-head covers, the intake manifolds, the gearbox bell housing. None of this is decorative lightness. Every gram removed is a gram the twin-turbo engine no longer has to move.

There is no power steering. There is no power brake assistance. There is no electronic driver aid of any kind, confirmed directly by Ferrari's own test driver, Dario Benuzzi, who also recorded that the earliest prototypes handled poorly and had to be developed component by component: turbochargers, brakes, dampers, tyres, in sequence, until the chassis could survive the engine it carried.
